The internet was all aflutter this morning with the news from Nintendo that they were planning to release yet another iteration of the Nintendo DS. This time incorporating 3D technology without the use of any external glasses, polarised or otherwise. This will now be the fifth iteration of the hand held that just keeps going.
Here we have the very first Nintendo DS, lovingly referred to as the Nintendo DS Phat by many gamers, I remember being very put off by the childish design of the product especially in view of the much more sophisticated Sony PSP that was it’s main competitor.
Nintendo then gave us the Nintendo DS Lite, this version embraced the design philosophies of Apple, to create a much more sophisticated looking device, one that wouldn’t look too embarrassing to use in public (With the warning that playing Pokemon will negate any tangible sophistication immediately).
More recently we had the Nintendo DSi, which boasted larger screens an internal and external camera and a new online Nintendo DSiWare service exclusive to the platform at the expense of the GameBoy Advanced slot.
Last of all before the Nintendo 3DS graces our stores we had the jumbo sized Nintendo DSi XL which was primarily aimed at the older generation of gamers that Nintendo pulled in with their lifestyle games. Anyway that’s all for now, consider yourself edumacated!
