I’m a not-so-secret-nerd and I previously wrote about my sadness at the loss of ‘The 1UP Show‘ when Ziff-Davies sold the gaming group to Hearst. Apparently the show was losing money for the company.
However to me it was a video game show done right, there have been many attempts at this in the past through shows on television such as Games Master and Bits just to name a few, but none of which managed to quite hit that sweet spot.
So I was hugely relieved that through generous donations by fans of the show, the recently laid off guys that created The 1UP Show got together to produce an independently produced show, renamed Co-Op. This in itself was pretty great for me, since I could still have my video game fix but with it came the anxiety that without any revenue this could be a very short lived venture.
Fortunately the stars seemed to align, aside from The 1UP Show, I also enjoy Diggnation which is produced by a company called Revision3 who have a line up of interesting online shows. What would be one of the most complimentary pairings possible, Revision3 picked up Co-Op to fill the missing gaming category in their catalogue and offering an avenue for the former 1UP guys to continue making the show that I love.
