    British Mamba Fans.

The BBC World Service reports on the trend of British followers of Japanese fashion. Seriously, what the flip?

An underground youth culture in Japan with distinctive music, fashion and make-up, where the skin is darkened using tanning products is spreading worldwide.

UPDATE: For those of you curious few, I found a style guide for the various subsets of the ‘Gyaru Gal Style‘ with photos to illustrate the look here.

    Norwegian Wood

You may recall my recent surprise at the release of Haruki Murakami’s latest book, 1Q84. Well following quickly is the news that my first foray into the world of Murakami — Norwegian Wood — is to be turned into a film by Tran Anh Hung. I’m not familiar with his work so I intend to watch one of his previous films to see what to expect. The last short story to be turned into a film was Tony Takitani which I adored.

    Michael Jackson

It seems so surreal that Michael Jackson has died at only 50! Although I didn’t manage to get a ticket for his scheduled concerts in London, I was still excited about a potential revival of his career. Sad times!

The first ever performance of his now legendary moonwalk, dude used to be so fucking cool!

Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's 'Alice In Wonderland'.

It looks like Tim Burton is at it again, collaborating with the usual suspects in working on a new Disney production of ‘Alice In Wonderland‘. The Guardian has managed to get hands on some early pictures from the film, to be released in March next year.

    Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix

I first heard Phoenix on the soundtrack to one of my favourite films, ‘Lost in Translation‘. That was back sometime in 2003 and ever since they’ve hardly bathed in the sunlight of popularity until now with the release of ‘Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix‘.

If you haven’t listened to them already, the entire album is available to listen to on Spotify and you can directly hear it here!
